Background

In order to obtain this we will need to work in the political system and we are fortunate to have the support of Ian Liddell Grainger MP. I worked with Ian a few years ago in trying to obtain an Amendment to the Children’s Act 1989 in our efforts to introduce a Legal Presumption of contact for both parents in the event of separation or divorce.

Ian was instrumental in introducing me to Oliver Letwin MP (shadow Home Secretary) who in turn introduced me to the Dominic Grieve MP (Shadow Attorney General) who after grilling me gave it his blessing. I was then passed onto Theresa May MP (Shadow Children’s Minister) who in turn introduced the amendment to Parliament. During this time Ian introduced an Early Day Motion which is designed to have a dry run in parliament to determine the level of support which seemed quite good at the time.

Alas Labour was in power and with the support of the Liberal Democrats sunk the Amendment Bill. It was clear to me then that the only party who would support men’s issues would be the Conservative Party.
